Artist Statement
Matthew paints a world of outcasts in vivid, far away lands. His funky, whimsical scenes are tinged with melancholy and cynical rebellion. Lone individuals on the fringes live out the joys and sorrows of solitude from freedom and bliss to dejection and frustration, confusion and disillusion. Each one is an episode in the animated saga, like snapshots from far out, gritty cartoons.
They are so crisp and graphic that they seem digital but they are full of craftsmanship and raw emotion. The honest and direct style evokes deeper feelings and the characters tell stories and have a lot of life to them. We escape and face the absurd existence along with these lone souls in the vast realms of mystery.
